Developing and maintaining a partnership
To form a successful partnership between community organisations there will be many different types of partnership structures open to you To decide which is most appropriate for you, you will need to consider your areas of expertise, the issues and implications surrounding different structures.
You will also need to think about the responsibilities of the different partners within the partnerships and draw up documents or contracts that record this agreement.
Once you have identified the mutual benefits of working with another community waste organisation and formed your partnership, you may reach a stage where you feel that there is further potential for the partnership.
This may involve identifying additional partners in the community (or public/private) sectors or may involve expanding or diversifying the services of the organisations already operating in the partnership.
There are also many issues that you will need to consider to ensure that the
partnership stays on track and achieves what it set out to achieve.
This may involve developing structures, processes, communication and reporting
channels or agreed ways of working to ensure that all involved in the partnership
understand their roles, responsibilities and targets.
There are many reasons why partnerships between community organisations may come to an end. It could be that funding for one or other of the partners has dried up, or perhaps on of the partners has decided to close or wish to work in another area or that the partnership is not operating as well as it was expected to.
