Health and safety

For any community organisation or project dealing with waste and/or reprocessing, the health and safety of those working for you is a key consideration.

It is vitally important that good practices are put in place and followed from the beginning. Once you have the basic risk assessments, policies and procedures in place, it is important to ensure that these are adhered to. In addition, should you wish to increase your current activities or introduce new ones, and grow your area of work, you will need to increase and widen your health and safety procedures to accommodate these changes.

This section gives links to information on general health and safety best practice for all organisations (and the basics that must be covered) and advice on how to improve and apply risk assessments and health and safety procedures effectively as your business grows. The links also give specific information on health and safety for the waste sector.
