grievance and disciplinary procedures

For any organisation or project the balance between smooth running and disciplinary procedures and actions is important.

All employers must legally provide employees with a written grievance procedure which at least meets the statutory standard grievance procedure. The grievance procudure should spell out how to make an official complaint and how it will be followed up and actioned. The procedure should ensure a fair hearing for all, but should spell out how disciplinary action may result in dismissal if persistent or serious in nature.

If you fail to follow discilplinary procedures when disciplining or dismissing an employee, they will be eligible to extra compensation and the dismissal will be deemed unfair.

This section gives links to websites which will spell out how to put together and follow a disciplinary procedure should you need to.
